Posture and balance reactions are evaluated as well as motor planning transitions and movement on the ball. This is a participatory workshop so comfortable clothing is suggested. This course is beneficial for therapists from novice to experienced. The new therapist will find the information invaluable in helping them to develop a repertoire of treatment strategies based on a firm foundation of logical problem solving. The experienced therapist will be challenged to refine their skills and move away from their entrenched comfortable techniques as well as share their expertise.
1. Evaluation of various posture and movement of classmates on ball. 2. Presentation of equilibrium reactions on ball versus stable surface. 3. Presentation of basic ball techniques for variety of pediatric patients by using partners and dolls. 4. Participation in lab experience on mock patients.
1. Describe differences of weight shifting on stable vs. Mobile surface. 2. Describe significance of extension and flexion with rotation for balance and equilibrium reactions 3. Demonstrate on partners, techniques to elicit weight shifting with control on the ball. 4. Demonstrate two techniques each for mobility, elongation, activity and control using the ball. 5. Demonstrate transitions for sequencing therapy activities on the ball..
Barbara is a graduate of Indiana University and lives in Wisconsin. She has treated in a variety of settings including out patient rehabilitation center, hospitals and school settings. She currently works at an outpatient pediatric therapy center treating children ranging in age form newborn to young adult. Barbara has contributed an appendix to the book IMPROVING UPPER BODY CONTROL -AN APPROACH TO ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT OF TONAL DYSFUNCTION, 2 sections to PARENT ARTICLES- FOR EARLY INTERVENTION, and written a book on treatment using the ball called: FACILITATING DEVELOPMENT AND SENSORIMOTOR FUNCTION- TREATMENT WITH THE BALL. Barbara has produced 15 educational DVD’s on treatment and in 2008 completed work on a new book titled, HEADS UP ON HYPOTONIA. Language: ENGLISH
**Participants are requested to bring a 18-24 inch jointed rag doll to practice treatment activities on smaller children.**

après 1 sept 2010: $775.00 par personne ($686.60 + $34.33 TPS + $54.07 TVQ) The cost includes: 1) Course manual 2) A *DVD (see below for description) 3) Continental Breakfasts , morning and afternoon refreshment breaks 4) A therapy ball (size and shapes may vary) 5) Parking at the hotel .
Each patient is treated for part of a taped therapy session using the ball to accomplish case specific goals. Components of control such as range of motion, joint mobility, muscle strengthening, synergistic motor control, joint alignment , motor planning new movements, and enhancing reactions to weight shift are highlighted on the videotape with each of the patients. The intent of this video is to provide a structure for using the ball as a therapy tool. For each patient, a diagnosis will be provided followed by showing and discussing a variety of ball techniques that can be used to address specific concerns.
A certificate of completion will be issued at the end of the course for 19.5 contact hours.
Please wear comfortable, loose clothing and bring a mat or large towel for floor work.
